MONTEVALLO - The University of Montevallo named John Jarnagin, formerly of Morehead State University, as its new baseball head coach Friday. Jarnagin replaces Greg Goff who resigned in May to take the head coach position at Campbell University in North Carolina.

Indo-Pacific coral reefs disappearing more rapidly than expected (PhysOrg)

Corals in the central and western Pacific ocean are dying faster than previously thought, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill researchers have found. Nearly 600 square miles of reef have disappeared per year since the late 1960s, twice the rate of rainforest loss.

McDonnell signs 7-year deal with Cards (Louisville Courier-Journal)

AAABA Sidelights: Holtz reunites with Monins (The Tribune-Democrat)

AAABA Hall of Fame inductee Jim Monin of Buffalo had two sons who carried on the baseball tradition in the family.In the 1990s, Jeff Monin played at North Carolina State and Andy Monin at Clemson University, both Atlantic Coast Conference squads.Johnstown Junior League standout Mike Holtz pitched at Clemson, and Andy Monin was a catcher and Tigers teammate.
