American Airlines extends club privileges to credit card (Denver Post)

The credit card's magnetic stripe contains three tracks of data, each being approximately one-tenth of an inch wide. The first and second tracks in the magnetic stripe are encoded with information about the cardholder's account, such as their credit card number, full name, the card's expiration date, and the country code. Additional information can be stored in the third track.

In its "Payments Fraud: Consumer Considerations," the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City examines the ways credit card and debit card payments are both susceptible to, and helpful in preventing, payments fraud. The Fed notes an increase in payments fraud, which it defines as "the use of a payment mechanism by someone other than the individual(s) authorized to use it."
