Q - My mother-in-law is in a nursing home and will remain there the rest of her life. She has a RRIF with a credit union in Ottawa in the amount of $25,000. The full amount is held in the account in the form a GIC for a three-year term which becomes renewable only on Dec. 30, 2009.

Stop living outside of your means (Los Angeles Times)

Dear Liz: We leased a BMW X-3 in March 2005. The monthly lease payment, with FICO scores of around 690, is $565 plus $100 for insurance. (Of the lease payment, $65 is because of the negative balance we rolled over from a previous car.) We need to decide next March whether to lease another Beemer, buy another one or go back to an Acura or something like that. Any suggestions?

Teacher charged in sex abuse (The Capital)

A second-year South River High School teacher has been charged with sexually abusing one of his students. Christopher Thomas Newman, 31, of 7956 Castle Dell in Glen Burnie, was arrested Thursday and charged with two counts of sex abuse of a minor and two counts of fourth-degree sex offense.

Furthermore, consumers should keep a list of phone numbers to dial credit card issuers in case of a lost credit card or suspected fraud. And, finally, the Fed recommends that consumers only use their credit card with online merchants they trust, never providing credit card information via e-mail or entering credit card into a website they do not trust. Credit card users should look for a lock icon or an address that begins "https" to ensure the website is secure.
