BUSINESS: Business Bureau warns of 'card skimming' (Ridgefield Press)
You may have received what appeared to be a credit card in the mail along with a letter promising something to the tune of "You are already approved" or "Clean up bad credit." If you have bad credit, it may have been tempting to follow the included instructions: dial a toll-free number, key in your "activation code," and speak to an operator requesting your bank account number. Perhaps you found out the hard way that these so-called advance fee credit cards are not credit cards at all.

As back-to-school shopping begins, the Better Business Bureau is warning consumers about increasing reports of credit card skimming. Credit card skimming is when credit or bank cards are swiped through portable card readers that copy card information.

All this momentum seems to indicate consumers can leave the house with a credit card and never have to even worry about putting cash in their wallets or swinging by an ATM. But some experts suggest that it is too early for consumers to ditch greenbacks altogether.
