Gordon Brown won't set Iraq pull-out timetable (Daily Telegraph)

Since its inception in 1996, the Heavily Indebted Poor Countries initiative (HIPC) has reduced the outstanding debt stock of 26 countries, primarily in sub-Saharan Africa, by two-thirds, the World Bank announced in its annual Global Development Finance report released in April. The reduction amounts to $40 bn in net present value (representing the market value of the original debt, discounted as if it were paid now, in a lump sum).
